Sadler-Vortex Formula Junior
- In late 1959 Bill Sadler began construction of around twelve Sadler FJ. Two of these were sold as chassis and suspension kits to Jeff Crawford and Bill Kitching, who in a joint project began simultaneously constructing two Formula Junior cars.
- The cars were initially entered as “Vortex”.
- The Vortex, differed from the Sadler factory-built cars in having the larger and superior 10” front brakes and custom alloy bodies. The frame still consisted of the Sadler built 1 1/4” steel tube semi space frame, with riveted on Aluminum body sections to form a stressed skin or semi monocoque type design. The engine and gearbox were off set to the left.
- The car was extensively raced in the circuits in Eastern Canada, initially as the Vortex FJ, later as a Sadler-Vortex, before migrating to Saskatchewan where the car raced on the Prairie Circuits until the late 1960’s.
- An extensive number of period photos, race history and entries and results list comes with the car. The car was driven at one event by Bill Sadler and carries his signature. Restoration of this well recognised Sadler-Vortex was carried out in Vancouver back in the early eighties. The car raced in the 2017 60th anniversary races at the USA, Mosport and then the UK events. The car was competitive with the Gemini Mk 2’s and Moorland FJ at UK circuits such as Donington Park, beautifully handling and its great in the wet.
- The car has been recently stripped to bare chassis and rebuilt.
- Fresh BMC A series 1098 long stroke race motor with run in time only. Twin SU 1 1/2” carburetors and fresh BMC A series straight cut CR gearbox, 10” Bi-metal alloy front drums, uprated chrome moly axles.
- A spare parts package of alternative diffs ratios, parts and wheels..
- The car will come with a new HTP. Currently the car is in New Zealand, but having previously been resident in Canada, USA, and in the UK in 2017-2019, it shouldn’t incur any duties in those countries if repatriated.
- A buyer can either outright purchase the car, or alternately there’s the option to lease to buy the car for the 70th anniversary series in New Zealand. Any lease payment would be deducted from the purchase price. Transport of the Sadler -Vortex to and around the New Zealand circuits can be organized for 1600 GBP. At close of racing I would undertake to crate the car and deliver to a freight forwarder for export.
- An exciting opportunity to purchase the prettiest of front engine FJ and race in the three events New Zealand in early 2026 (and Australia in 2027), without the worry of bringing a car over.
- Offers around 37000 GBP.

Dagrada FJ
- DAGRADA Lancia #007 Formula Junior
- Purchased from the Estate of John Schroepfer, he had purchased this car from a yard sale in the early 70’s.
- This car was part of the 2 or 3 cars that were imported by Chuck Frederick, a Chevrolet dealer in Colorado, Dagrada 006, 007, 008 all raced out of Colorado.
- This car 007 was raced in 1964 by Jimmy Mulhall. Then presumably raced by Edna Sherman.
- Mr. Schroepfer had tinkered with it over the years restoring various parts and collecting needed pieces.
- He had one Lancia Appia cylinder head modified to duplicate the original crossflow racing version as run in the Dagrada Junior.
- There are lots of new parts he had gathered over the years.
- Major parts that I have noticed are missing, 3 backing plates for the brakes, intake manifolds, exhaust headers and a fuel cell. Take a close look at the pics, many projects completed, but much still to be done.
- Note picture of George Hite in his DeTomaso FJ with the Dagrada, presumed to be 007, in the background.
- Ten front engine Dagrada Formula Juniors were constructed, along with one rear engine car.
- There may have been as many as thirteen built, unknown at this time. 6 maybe 8 cars still exist, a rare car.
- Can email Many more pics to real buyers.
- Looking for a serious offer from a serious future caretaker of this rare race car
